Analysis of the Current Situation and Development Prospects of the Chinese Aluminum Alloy Building Formwork Market
Aluminum formwork, also known as aluminum alloy formwork, is a modular formwork manufactured using specialized extrusion equipment. It consists of three components: aluminum panels, brackets, and connectors. These formwork components are equipped with a comprehensive set of universal accessories and can be assembled into complex, integrated formwork frames of varying sizes. This system of prefabricated, industrialized construction addresses the shortcomings of traditional formwork and significantly improves construction efficiency.

Aluminum alloy formwork companies are primarily concentrated in South, East, North, and Central China, with many in North China concentrated in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. This suggests that aluminum alloy formwork is widely used in coastal cities, particularly in Guangdong Province, where 24 companies have achieved certification, accounting for 33% of the total number of certified aluminum alloy formwork companies nationwide.
Northwest China has the fewest aluminum alloy formwork companies, with a much lower penetration rate than South China. These companies are mostly concentrated in first-tier cities. Against the backdrop of new urbanization, ecological progress, and the new normal of economic development, the application of green aluminum alloy formwork, which offers significant energy savings and emission reductions, in construction holds great promise.
Currently, wooden formwork is the most commonly used turnover material in Chinese construction projects. However, as low-carbon and energy-saving initiatives gain increasing attention in my country, aluminum formwork is attracting attention. In the third quarter of 2024, the production and sales of aluminum formwork in my country reached 9.17 million square meters and 8.75 million square meters, respectively.
In recent years, in response to the national call for low-carbon and energy-saving efforts, aluminum formwork has been widely introduced into China's construction industry as a key component of the green building concept. In just a few years, aluminum formwork, thanks to its numerous advantages, has gained favor with builders, including major Chinese construction and real estate companies such as Vanke and China Construction.
Vanke is a particular proponent of aluminum formwork, employing aluminum formwork systems for almost all of its high-rise buildings. Aluminum formwork systems are also widely used in Vanke's residential display center, "Vanke Dream Factory," in Shenzhen.
Labor Cost Analysis: The main factors influencing the cost of aluminum formwork are both external and internal. External factors include the material cost of aluminum formwork, while internal factors include manufacturing costs. Labor costs account for approximately 10%-15% of the total cost. Other Cost Analysis: Aluminum alloy building formwork follows the traditional production process before leaving the factory. Its costs primarily consist of raw material costs, sheet metal processing costs, related accessory costs, support costs, detailed design costs, taxes, administrative fees, and other expenses (such as trial assembly and transportation costs). Production Cost Structure Analysis: The ex-factory price of aluminum alloy formwork is primarily influenced by material costs and sheet metal processing costs, with these costs accounting for more than half of the ex-factory price.
At the same time, with the continued advancement of science and technology and the continuous innovation of production processes, the aluminum alloy processing industry will inevitably undergo changes, leading to a gradual reduction in production costs. Due to the relatively short development history of aluminum alloy in my country and the limited availability of products on the market, production costs are relatively high. However, with its continued promotion and utilization, prices will inevitably decline and stabilize in line with market trends. After analyzing the cost components of the ex-factory price of aluminum alloy formwork, the overall cost of aluminum alloy formwork will become increasingly apparent as the market stabilizes.
The primary cost of aluminum alloy formwork during construction is labor costs, and due to the high level of professionalism employed, labor costs are generally lower than those of other formwork products on the market. The cost of formwork engineering accounts for a large proportion of the total project cost, and the cost of formwork engineering is mainly spent on labor costs; due to the shortage of resources in the traditional wooden formwork market, the cost is constantly increasing. The use of aluminum alloy formwork has low labor costs, fast construction speed, low labor intensity, and high safety, which greatly reduces the cost of the overall project and saves more human resources. The comprehensive value benefit is better than other formwork systems on the market, which is of great significance under the national conditions of my country with high labor costs.
